I've been an actor for over 30 years, professionally for the last nine in voiceover, stage and screen. When people ask me what made me want to be an actor, I've remembered moments that led to it. At 8 years old, listening to speak-and-read books, where you turned the page at the chime, and being in awe that the person reading it did every voice. Then I'd read my own books out loud with different voices. At 9, watching a movie on cable called, “The Champ” and bawling because little Ricky Schroeder was killing it. I asked my mother how I could do what that kid was doing as a job and she had no idea. Flash forward to 15, and getting cast as a lead in my first High School play as a Sophomore. From that moment on, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. Over 100 local acting performances later, I moved to LA at 22, but then returned home a year later because I was too young and without a mentor to know what I was doing. (If only I knew then what I know now.)
Shortly after returning to Utah, I got married and became a professional licensed stock broker. (Didn’t see that one coming.) Then one day, I saw a play my friend was in, and as I sat in the theater and anger began to seethe within. I was so mad! Mad at the actors on stage, because they were doing what I used to want to do, that I could still do if I just decided to. I left the theater and walked to my car when it was over and I was still mad. I drove home and sat in my driveway, and I was even more upset! When I asked myself why, it hit me. This is what I’ve always wanted to do! I declared that night, I would be a paid actor again. I got cast in my first professional gig 5 days later and haven’t looked back since.
I'm a dedicated actor, I’m always working on my skills. I’ve been under direct tutelage for stage, film and voice over since my declaration, by the likes of Glenn Morshower, Rob Diamond, Robin Armstrong and over a dozen professional directors in plays, commercials, films and voice over jobs. I’m really easy to work with, take direction well, am always prompt in attendance, communication and the finished product. You will get EXACTLY what you paid for when you hire me. I look forward to working with you.
Currently I work out of my own recording space at Rough Edges Studios. You can also book studio time there.
Two Rough Edges Studios
I not only produce my own voice over work for commercials and audio books, but I also record and produce podcasts for others. Check out such works as Rogue Life, or The Dialogue Journal.
How I work
I can record, edit, process and send out audio within 24 hours (depending on the size of the project of course). My typical price is $150 for up to the first hour and then we go from there depending on the size of the project. I also charge for usage which will be negotiated by my talent manager. I like to set up a zoom meeting for the recording time so that I give my clients the best opportunity to direct me in order to deliver the best possible product for their project. I offer free unlimited revisions for the first week after delivery and generally do best with text and email as a form of communication. I am more prompt to reply that way.
I have a thick skin and cannot be easily offended, but I am also very respectful of your beliefs and have no judgements. I just love helping deliver a solid performance for my clients to get their projects ready to launch. Also, I don’t like to waste time, for myself or my clients. I just deliver results.
I tend to work most with financial businesses because I’ve been in the industry for over 15 years and I know the lingo, but I’ve also been a character actor on stage for over 20,000 patrons, produced 10 audiobooks (mostly fiction) and can deliver a unique voice that fits any occasion.
How I got my start in Voice Over…
I got a real job in the finance industry. Yep, I was a licensed stock broker, but I had a knack for teaching and my acting skills made it very comfortable being in front of a room of people. I began teaching classes to the new hires.
A Mortgage Funding business that was tied to where I worked, hired me to be the voice of the company. They had me doing all the online training courses, promotional demos, commercials, telephone and even some video for their conferences. I then booked my first audiobook which turned out to be a trilogy and things took off from there.
So that’s me in a nutshell. Have fun checking out the site if you’d like, there is always some fun nuggets here and there.
